The HE Professional Services Management Development Programme

A 12 week programme to help you become a more grounded, calm and sturdy manager so that you can leave burnout behind and know that you're getting the right things done.

I know that being a manager can be tough, especially if you're an overburdened middle manager. Budgets are tight and everyone is being asked to do more with less. It feels like a squeeze. But overworking is not the answer.

In my experience, most managers know what they should be doing. When asked they report things like:

  • say no more
  • have boundaries
  • delegate better
  • sort out that underperformance issue in my team

But these things are easier said than done. That's why I've created this programme.

I will support you to master these key management activities (even if you've historically avoided them) and get things done via your team with less stress and more ease.

Swap that feeling of "winging it" for "owning it" when it comes to your management practice.

Where do I sign up?

If you're ready to find your confidence as a manager and leave burnout behind then the HE PS Management Development Programme is for you.

Here's what's inside

Three in-depth training modules

Managing yourself and your priority

One of the main things that managers struggle with is getting dragged around by other people's priorities and being buried in email overwhelm. This module tackles how to keep your main thing in it's place as the main thing. And how to deal with everything else. We'll look at ways to get unhooked from the big three: perfectionism, procrastination and people pleasing.

Managing workload and wellbeing by managing upwards and outwards

Sometimes your Senior Managers and stakeholders will make unreasonable demands of you and your team. This module is all about knowing when to push back and how. We'll be tackling saying no, setting boundaries and making better agreements.

Managing the BAU workflows

I know you know you should be delegating more but you worry about the time it takes to train people and then how to keep control of everything. So this module is all about how authority, responsibility, accountability and information flow between you and your team member(s) to keep the business as usual work ticking along. We want to run things so that you can trust them to get on with their stuff, while you make progress with yours.

PLUS you get

dedicated group coaching sessions

These live coaching calls go alongside the training modules. Each session you will each get a chance to talk about your individual challenges, comments and questions so that you can integrate the learning into your unique context, with your team, your manager and your situation. I'm going to support you the whole way as you get used to doing this management thing differently. Trying new things can feel uncomfortable but it's the only way to get a different result, and we both know you can't carry on as you are.

AND...

an in-person day in Central London to practice Managing the Conversation.

This is the bit that gets the best feedback of the whole programme. You need to practice. It might feel ick at first but actually practicing is what makes the learning stick. Be it renegotiating priorities with your boss or holding accountability with your team member(s), let's practice so that you can get comfortable having more robust conversations that will actually support you long term.

Feel fully supported as you:

  • redefine your views, opinions and beliefs about yourself and your role as a manager
  • streamline the business as usual workflows in your team with better agreements, delegation, accountability and feedback
  • create a structure for having potentially tricky conversations that feels lighter and more straight forward
  • learn how to implement better boundaries to protect your energy and your team.
